· Metal roofs do not ignite or spark into dangerous flames during bushfires or lighting, making them extremely safe.

What is the thickness I can get for my metal roof?

There are 2 primary thickness in metal roofing, 0.42 and 0.48 in short, the 0.42 BMT is the thinner choice for common roof profiles, whilst the 0.48 BMT is the thicker choice for common roof profiles. Many will assume that the 0.48 BMT will last longer than the 0.42 BMT, but it isn’t always the case, especially when it comes to rust. One rust has set in the .06mm thickness does very minimal to slow down rust holes from further developing.

The advantages in the 0.48 BMT is in commercial roofing – the additional strength will allow for bigger spacings between each purlin. This also means fewer fasteners and quicker roof installations. 0.48 BMT roofing should be used on residential roofs as cheap insurance against potential bucking. Localised buckling is primarily caused by inexperienced foot traffic found on residential roofs, for example, the air-conditioning man, plumber, gutter cleaner and TV repairer. Buckling can occur by simply walking on the metal roofs incorrectly, it can also be subject to the weight of the person/objects and the outdoor elements.
